Pietrasanta is a town of 24,547 inhabitants (as of 31-12-2004) in the province of Lucca.
Historical capital of Versilia (the land between the coast of the Ligurian Sea and the Apuan Alps) is an international center for the processing of marble and bronze, so as to frequently host international sculptors who stay there to create sculptural works even large.

Pietrasanta has ancient origins, born in 1255, when the Milanese nobleman Guiscardo Pietrasanta, podestà of the Republic of Lucca, founded it at the foot of the pre-existing Lombard fortress and the village called Sala.
